Being Cassandra (Updated Version)

Greek myth of Cassandra - a young woman, after given the "gift" of being able to see the future, is cursed with having no one ever believing her when she tells them of her visions. She eventually goes insane.

Lies are powerful; because they distort the reality. But Suffering is caused not only by believing something that is not true, but also - knowing the truth and having no one believe you.

Films where the hero is also "Cassandra":

Flight plan (Jodie Foster)
Fair Game (Sean Penn)
Changeling (Angelina Jolie)*
Black Swan (Natalie Portman)

Many times the characters in these films are forced to take action alone and with great consequences to their actions. Almost every time they are accused of being unstable or just liars in an attempt to discredit them.

Attacks
All the attacks are aimed at getting you to retreat, go away, or isolate yourself.
You put yourself in solitude.
You imprison yourself. What looks like self-destruction is actually an attack by those who don't want the truth known. There is no evidence of anyone's attack on you.
Your insanity is born out of a Cassandra like conflict and frustration. An insanity eased only by a search for the truth, justice, and helping others.

Life Lesson
The pursuit of Truth and/or justice has consequences. It is often a battle fought alone and takes a great toll.

Its common to try to discredit the hero. In what ways are people discredited in an effort to make sure no one listens to them?

Life Skill
Courage, insight, critical thinking, and wisdom

Critical Thinking
Were you ever punished or attacked for telling the truth?
Did anyone believe you? Were you punished for it?
Have you ever worried about what people would think?
Are you now less likely to challenge an injustice? Knowing what you know now, how would you handle similar situations that in the future?

Mindfulness
Awareness. Be aware of how and why the true is distorted and illusions created.

Important note about Compassion and Empathy:

Validation is a powerful tool. Its absence creates pain and suffering. While its presence grants healing.
Even if you don't agree with someone's point of view it doesn't make their perception or emotions any less important.
